COMMUNITY SERVICE
Colorado, a clean beauty.
I had to complete a total of 30 hours of service. I needed 15.5 after a couple days of community service with Kristin Tarufelli, Rifle City Assessor. For my remaining 15.5 hours I needed to complete, I cleaned up trash at the Res in Rifle. The Res is a place where peole go camping and the go up there to shoot. When people camp they leave trash and when they go shooting they leave bullet casings everywhere. I made it my goal to clean up at least 2 hours for a week. I cleaned 4 areas of the Res that were the dirtiest and where most people spent their time when they went up there. The Res is a very beautiful spot when well maintained and taken care of. After a week of cleaning the areas I worked in, I collected over 14 bags of trash and 6 bags of bullet casings. For the Last hour and a half that I had remaining I went up to Cloud Nine, a section of the Res and picked up all the trash up there and it totaled in 6 bags alone. Cloud Nine was by far the nastiest part of the Res. But after my time at the Res it made me realize how much we take beautiful land for granted. Its there for us whenever we need and we just trash it. Of it took that many bags to clean up 4 areas, small areas, I don’t know what it would take the clean up the entire Res. I have gained a lot of respect for the people who own the Res land. They try there hardest to keep up with the constant in and out of the Res. If more people cleaned up after themselves that Res would be a gorgeous area to spend family time at. But no one wants to spend a day in the sun next to trash and bullet casings, I am glad I picked the Res to finish up my community service, it showed me how beautiful Colorado land can be when taken care of.

Well, on the first day, Kendall, Jasmine, and I went to an assisted living home. We took nail polishes to do their nails as we talked to them. We asked questions like, Where are you from.? Does your family come visit you.? We interviewed 3 women. My favorite woman was, Jackie. She was very upbeat and sweet. She reminded me of myself as how I would like to be when I get older. Her son had come in that morning and she said her family comes and sees her a lot. She was in the assisted living home because she still has the freedom she did at home, but she couldn’t do some of the things she always did.
For the 2 days that we had to intern somewhere else, we went to the county assessors office and shadowed Kris Tarufelli. My boyfriends mother, whom in the fraud investigator for the Garfield County. She had us file papers, put payments from people in certain orders. We also did a lot of filing. She gave us each a pile of papers and we put them in alphabetical order and then placed them into the filing cabinets. Near the end of the last day she had us type number into a spreadsheet and we got to see by clicking 1 button how the computer organized everything.
On Friday Mindi took some of us to CMU. We took a tour of the Tech College as well. At the Tech College we got to see the auto shop, the dental area, and where they do the massage therapy. It was really cool and the atmosphere was amazing. Didn’t feel like a college at all. At CMU we toured the school, we toured the gym. We got to see a lot of the school. And our tour guide was very sweet. The gym looks like the coolest part of the school. They have a pool and everything. That college became a very beautiful University.
